36.1 Datashop Web

Datashop Web shows workbooks in a web browser – for users who only need to look at and filter reports, without installing Datashop. It runs on IIS on the server, next to Acinta Server, which produces the pages.

What Users Can Do

  • Log in and browse the workbooks of their private folder.
  • Open a workbook (in a new browser window by default) and switch sheets.
  • Filter with the workbook's filter visuals, and click charts to filter.
  • Save to Excel for a table.
  • Follow action links that open another workbook.

Not available on the web: the Filter Panel, design, nikolAI, and actions other than opening workbooks and web pages. Designers should test workbooks meant for the web in a browser.

Logging In

Way How
Login page User name and password; Remember Me keeps the user name for 30 days
Windows login When IIS uses Windows authentication, users are recognized by their Windows account. Tick Allow browser authentication for the user (and set Domain if needed) – see 32.1 Users.

Sessions end after 30 minutes without activity.

Datashop Web always uses the first project in the server's project registrations.

How Visuals Look on the Web

The Web tab in a visual's settings controls the web output: Layer ID, Name, Hyperlink (a link for texts and pictures), Display (clipping and scroll bars) and Render as Image or HTML. Tables are always rendered as HTML, charts, gauges and pictures as images.

The project option Time limit for generating Action Links (default 5000 ms) limits how long the server spends creating clickable links in large tables – see 26.2 Project Options.

Setting It Up

The server installer installs Datashop Web in the WebEnabler folder and creates the IIS application /WebEnabler – see 30.1 Installing Acinta. Users open http://<server>/WebEnabler/.

[!WARNING] Secure Datashop Web before giving users access: - Use HTTPS in IIS – otherwise passwords and data travel unencrypted. - Delete the test and sample pages from the WebEnabler folder (pages with Test, CRM or List in the name, and scripts such as RestartAcintaServer.bat). Some log in with fixed credentials. - Don't use IntegratedLogin.asp with a password in the address, and don't store a user and password in IntegratedLogin.inc. - Make the site reachable only from your internal network unless it's specifically secured for internet access.
