10.7 Classic Transformations

Before quick transformations, period comparisons and accumulations were made with classic transformations: named objects defined in Modeller, such as Same posting date last year. Older workbooks and metrics still use them, and they keep working. For new work, use quick transformations – they cover the same needs and are set up in Datashop with a few clicks.

Where You Meet Them

  • In the Element Structure panel, as an item under a metric column, named after the transformation.
  • In the column dialog (double-click the column) → Transformation, which lists the project's classic transformations.
  • In a metric's advanced settings → Transformation tab – see 10.3 Creating and Editing Metrics.

Working With Them

  • Use: choose a transformation in the column dialog or the metric's Transformation tab. Choose to remove it.
  • Copy: drag the transformation item in the Element Structure panel to another metric.
  • Remove: right-click the item → Delete.

Datashop can't change a classic transformation itself: double-clicking it gives No editor has been assigned to this operation. Classic transformations are created and changed in Modeller – see 24.2 Transformations.

Replacing a Classic Transformation

  1. Note what the transformation does – its name and the description in the Transformation list usually tell.
  2. Delete it from the column.
  3. Apply the matching quick transformation, e.g. Other period → Year → 1 year ago for same date last year, or Rolling total for an accumulation.
  4. Compare the figures with the old version before saving.
