30.1 Installing Acinta

Acinta comes with two installers: one for the PCs of users and administrators, and one for the server. Both need Windows administrator rights and install to C:\Program Files (x86)\Acinta.

The Client Installer

AcintaClientInstaller.exe installs Datashop, Modeller and Enterprise Manager, and creates these shortcuts in the Start menu (and on the desktop, if ticked):

Shortcut Starts
Datashop Workbook Datashop in the Workbook edition (edition=3)
Datashop Expert Datashop in the Expert edition (edition=1)
Modeller Modeller
Modeller (Admin) Modeller with administrator rights (admin) – needed e.g. to save project registrations in the program folder
EnterpriseManager Enterprise Manager

The edition used last is remembered, so starting Datashop.exe without parameters opens the same edition.

Datashop Professional is discontinued (build 20086 and later): setup no longer offers it, and removes old Datashop Professional shortcuts when you update. Users who started Professional now get Datashop Expert – their stored edition is changed automatically. See 35.1 Command-Line Reference.

Not included: database drivers. For PostgreSQL and MySQL the client libraries come with Acinta; for SQL Server, Windows' own ODBC driver is used. ODBC data sources (DSN) are set up in Windows.

The Server Installer

AcintaServerInstaller.exe installs:

  • Acinta Server, registered as the Windows service Acinta Server (service name SvcSaturnServer) – see 33.1 Acinta Server;
  • Enterprise Manager;
  • Datashop Web files in a WebEnabler folder – see 36.1 Datashop Web.

If IIS and ASP are missing, setup offers to install them (Install), or to skip that (Do not install, e.g. when Apache is used). It then creates the IIS application /WebEnabler and sets permissions.

Two tasks run at the end, both ticked by default: Configure Saturn server (the Project and mail settings – see 34.1 Email Delivery) and Send test e-mail message. The PC restarts after setup.

If Acinta Server is already installed, setup asks to uninstall the service first.

After Installing

  1. Register the project on each PC – start Modeller, or copy the project registration file, see 30.2 Configuration Files and Project Registrations.
  2. On the server, check the project and mail settings, and start the service.
  3. Log in and change the Administrator password – see 32.1 Users.

Datashop Web exposes test pages from the installation folder. Remove test pages you don't need from the web folder, and set up HTTPS in IIS.

Uninstalling

Uninstall from Windows Apps & features. Settings files in %APPDATA%\Acinta are kept. On the server, uninstalling leaves the service registered: stop and remove it first with AcintaServer.exe /uninstall (see 35.1), and remove the IIS application if Datashop Web was used.
