25.1 Translating the Data Model

Names and descriptions in the data model can be translated, so each Datashop user sees dimensions, units and facts in their own language. In Modeller you translate field by field; Datashop's Edit translations tool translates many texts at once – see 19.4 Translations.

Project Languages

The project's languages – the base language and the other enabled languages – are set up in Enterprise Manager, which can also export and import translations. Modeller doesn't add or remove languages.

Which language a user sees is set in their user settings (User language); Auto uses the Windows language if the project has it, otherwise the base language.

Translating in Modeller

When the project has two or more languages, the text fields under Properties can be translated:

  • Name and Title have a language button, e.g. en – click it (or Alt+↓) and choose the language to edit.
  • Description has language tabs at its right edge.
  • Ctrl+↑ and Ctrl+↓ switch to the previous or next language, in all fields at once.
  • Ctrl+Space suggests a translation – from the project's existing translations and Google Translate.

What can be translated depends on the object:

Object Translatable
Dimensional unit Name, Title, Description
Dimension, transformation, folder, project Name, Description
Fact, table Description

Data in Several Languages

Some lookup tables hold one row per language, e.g. product names in English and Danish. Right-click the language column in the Warehouse diagram → Set language attribute. Acinta then reads only the rows in the user's language (and rows without a language). Remove language setting undoes it.

Not to be confused with Table/field translations on the PROJECT tab, which maps renamed tables and fields between versions of a source database – see 21.3 When the Source Database Changes.

Tips – Translating the Data Model

  • Translate unit titles and descriptions first – they're what users and nikolAI read most.
  • After an Acinta update, Messages may advise running Repair with Mark all objects for saving to update translations – see 26.3 Repair.
