19.3 Project Cleanup¶
Projects collect clutter over the years: metrics nobody uses, workbooks with errors, duplicates. Project Cleanup finds them and helps you fix or remove them.
Open it from the main window cog menu → Tools → Cleanup.... It starts checking right away.
What It Checks¶
On the OBJECTS tab, choose which object types to check – metrics, dimensions and units, filters, layouts, actions, rules, workbooks, folders and styles (all ticked by default).
On the PROBLEMS tab, choose what to look for:
| Problem | Means |
|---|---|
| Invalid | The object has errors, e.g. a metric referring to a deleted metric (the only one ticked by default) |
| Warnings | Something may be wrong |
| Unused | Nothing uses the object |
| Empty | The object has no contents, e.g. an empty filter |
| Duplicate | Another object does exactly the same |
| Ambiguous | Another object of the same type has the same name |
| Missing translations | Texts not translated into all project languages (only in projects with several languages) |
Under Invalid, dimensional units – including saved segmentations – that have no dimension are reported as
Click Refresh (F5) after changing the choices. Each problem type shows how many it found.
Fixing Problems¶
Select a result to see the details and What can you do?:
- Edit... opens the object – e.g. to correct an invalid metric;
- Delete... removes an unused object, after showing what depends on it;
- Fix problem repairs it automatically, where possible;
- for Ambiguous, Edit 1 ... and Edit 2 ... open the two objects with the same name;
- for Missing translations, type the translations directly in the panel.
Right-click a result for Open, Show location..., Delete and View dependent objects. Ctrl+Alt+→ and Ctrl+Alt+← move to the next or previous problem.
Nothing is deleted automatically. But deletions and fixes are saved to the project immediately – there is no undo.
Tips – Project Cleanup¶
- Tick Unused now and then, and check with colleagues before deleting – an unused metric may be meant for future workbooks.
- Fix Invalid objects first; they cause errors for users.
