19.4 Translations

Names, titles and descriptions in a project can be translated, so each user sees workbooks, metrics and dimensions in their own language. Translate single texts where you edit them, or many at once with Edit translations.

Which language you see is set by your user language – see 4.5 Your User Settings. Cog menu → Tools → Language switches it for the current session.

Translating a Single Text

Text fields that can be translated have a small language button, e.g. en:

  • click it (or Alt+↓) to choose the language you're editing;
  • Ctrl+↑ / Ctrl+↓ switch to the previous or next language;
  • Ctrl+Space suggests a translation.

Edit Translations

Cog menu → Tools → Edit translations lists all translatable texts of the project:

  1. Choose the language to translate From and the one To.
  2. Edit the texts in the To column. Filter narrows the list, e.g. to one workbook's name.
  3. Auto-translate fills in all missing translations automatically (using Google Translate); check the result. Ctrl+Space in a cell suggests a translation for that text.
  4. Click Save or OK.

Double-click a row to open the object it belongs to.

Adding and Removing Languages

The + and − buttons next to Languages add or remove a project language.

[!WARNING] Removing a language deletes all its translations in every object immediately – even if you then click Cancel. There is no undo. From build 20368 you're asked first: Remove the language "" and all its translations? This can't be undone.

Tips – Translations

  • Translate titles and descriptions, not only names – nikolAI and your users read them.
  • Use Project Cleanup with Missing translations to find what's left – see 19.3 Project Cleanup.

Common Issues – Translations

Problem: Some names still show in another language. - Solution: They have no translation in your language yet, so the base language is shown. Add the translation.

Problem: An auto-translated text shows an error message. - Solution: The translation service returned an error. Delete the text and try again later, or type it yourself.
