2.5 Understanding Responses¶
nikolAI responds to your requests in different ways depending on what you asked. This section helps you understand what to expect and how to work with the responses you get.
Types of Responses¶
Text Explanations¶
When you ask questions, nikolAI provides explanations and guidance.
What you'll get: - Answers about features and capabilities - Explanations of metrics and dimensions - Guidance on how to accomplish tasks - Suggestions for next steps
Remember: Responses will vary based on your specific data model and context. Don't expect word-for-word identical answers to the same question.
Action Confirmations¶
When you ask nikolAI to do something, it confirms what it did.
Examples: - "I've created a table with Customer, Turnover, and Profit Margin" - "I've opened the Export to PDF dialog with a suggested filename" - "I've added a Year-Over-Year comparison column to the table"
The visual or dialog will appear in your workbook - check that it's what you wanted.
Clarifying Questions¶
Sometimes nikolAI needs more information to help you.
Examples: - "Which table would you like me to modify?" - "Do you want this filtered to a specific year?" - "Should I create this on the current tab or a new tab?"
Answer the questions to help nikolAI complete your request.
Links and Lists¶
nikolAI can provide clickable links to workbooks and lists of available objects.
Examples: - Lists of workbooks matching your criteria - Available dimensions in your data model - Links to open specific workbooks directly
Click the links to navigate or use the information to refine your request.
Working with Responses¶
Verify the Results¶
Always check that nikolAI did what you intended, especially for: - Visual configurations (right dimensions and metrics?) - Formatting (colors, fonts, alignment correct?) - Filters (applied correctly?) - Calculations (results make sense?)
Iterate if Needed¶
First attempts aren't always perfect. Refine your request: - "Good, but change the chart type to bar chart" - "Add Region to the table" - "Sort by Turnover descending"
Ask Follow-up Questions¶
Build on previous responses: - "Why is that metric calculated that way?" - "Can you show me an example?" - "What other options do I have?"
What Responses DON'T Include¶
nikolAI doesn't: - Show you the actual data values unless they're visible in the visuals it creates - Execute actions without confirmation (you'll see dialogs to confirm exports, saves, etc.) - Make irreversible changes - you can always undo or modify
Tips – Understanding Responses¶
- Don't expect identical responses - AI varies naturally; focus on whether it accomplishes your goal
- Check your work - Verify important configurations and calculations
- Use the response as a starting point - Refine and adjust as needed
- Ask for clarification - If a response doesn't make sense, ask nikolAI to explain
Common Issues – Understanding Responses¶
Problem: "The response doesn't answer my question" - Solution: Rephrase your question more specifically, or ask follow-up questions to narrow down what you need.
Problem: "nikolAI created something but it's not quite right" - Solution: This is normal. Tell nikolAI what to adjust: "Change X" or "Add Y"
