30.2 Configuration Files and Project Registrations

Acinta's programs keep two kinds of settings in files: project registrations – which projects exist and where they're stored – and application settings per program.

Project Registrations (projects.dspx)

projects.dspx lists the projects shown in the login dialogs, with how to reach each repository (file, folder or database). Modeller writes it when a project is saved for the first time or restored.

Where the programs look, in this order:

  1. A file given on the command line: projects=<full path>;
  2. %APPDATA%\Acinta\projects.dspx;
  3. projects.dspx in the program folder.

Acinta Server always uses projects.dspx in its own folder.

Sharing Registrations

To give many users the same projects, copy a prepared projects.dspx to each PC, or point the shortcuts to a shared file with projects=\\server\acinta\projects.dspx.

A registration file can also refer to a central file on a share, which can list projects per Windows user.

Passwords for database repositories in the file are obfuscated, not encrypted – protect the file with NTFS rights, or use Windows authentication.

Application Settings (*.msx)

Each program has a settings file: Datashop.msx, Modeller.msx, EnterpriseManager.msx, and AcintaServer.msx for the server. They hold e.g. the Datashop edition, window layouts, log settings and – for the server – mail and project settings.

Clients look in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Acinta, then %APPDATA%\Acinta, then %PROGRAMDATA%\Acinta. Put a file in %PROGRAMDATA%\Acinta to give all users of a PC the same defaults. Acinta Server uses AcintaServer.msx in its program folder.

Synchronization

Build 20223 and later.

<SynchronizeMetadata> decides whether the program loads other users' saved changes each time it saves – see Synchronization in 20.4 Saving and Working Together.

Program Default
Acinta Server On (build 20265 and later)
Datashop, Modeller, Enterprise Manager Off

The programs never write this setting themselves. To change it, add it to the .msx file by hand, e.g. <SynchronizeMetadata>True</SynchronizeMetadata>. A value you add is kept when the program saves its settings.

Log Files

Each program writes a log file, e.g. %APPDATA%\Acinta\Datashop Log.html. Open it from About → View log – see 19.5 Change Log and Other Tools. Send it to Acinta support when reporting a problem.

.acproj Files

Projects stored as a single file (.acproj) can be opened by double-clicking them. The file type is registered for the Windows user the first time Modeller starts: Open in Datashop (default) and Open in Modeller. Opening an .acproj in Datashop adds it to the project registrations.
